Mogadishu Mile

Yesterday was the 20th Anniversary of one of the most costly and important operations in the 75th Ranger Regiment’s history.  The mission lasted into the following day when members of Task Force Ranger had to run out of Mogadishu in what is now known as “The Mogadishu Mile”

The battle, which took place in the Bakara Market area of Mogadishu, is well known to many and the courage of the Rangers, Operators and Pilots is well documented. There was a huge cost; 16 members of Task Force Ranger were killed and 83 were wounded.

Although this raid is occasionally used by some as an example of failure, those that do so often fail to mention that the purpose of the raid, capturing enemy personnel at the objective, was accomplished and that all detainees were evacuated back to the staging base. The Task Force mission was accomplished.

Please take a moment to remember our fallen Rangers from this momentous battle. The lessons drawn from their sacrifices are present throughout the 75th Ranger Regiment today. And keep their families in your thoughts and prayers as well.
